This is an unusual view frmo an unusual unit. The 75th new york was an infantry unit serving in the deep south for a time and was mounted to serve as cavalry in 1863. Many of the reenlisted veterans wore their cavalry outfits ohme of furlough and had their photos take. When they retunred to the field, however, they were returned to infantry service. The regimental history records that the veterans were so disappointed that they refused to draw infantry arms for several days and did not take the yellow stripes off their uniforms for several months.
hTe regiment subsequently saw service in the shenandoah and got pretty well cut up at opequon and cedar creek. Here is a serious looking member of the unit posed, full-standing with high boots, a cavalry saber, saber belt, forage cap with crossed sabers on the front with regimental numerals 75 below and company letter above. He rests one arm on a tree stump and poess in front of a painted studio backdrop. No backmark or tax stamp, but it came out of an album with auburn, ny, area cdv portraits, which is where the 75th ny recruited. Shipping $4.80 for priority mail plsu insurance. Overseas $15. Ny and oh add sales tax. Check, m. O, paypal. Thanks! Pleaes check out my other auctions.
