Cdv Portrait James E Mix Adjutant 137Th Nyv

Mix enrolled in ithaca at age 29 on 8/16/62, to serve three years, and mustered in as first lieutenant, co. D 8/28/62. He was mustered in as adjutant 12/21/63, having been commissioned 11/9/63, with rank from 7/29/63. He mustered out with teh regiment 6/9/65. Mix was commissioned captain 7/29/63, but declined to be mustered in at that rank.

He was, however, bretted major by the state of nwe york. They also thought well enough of him to name one of the local gar posts after him. The identification is confirmed by another signed view of him. I will supply a photocopy of that one with this. The 137th has a very interesting record, holding the federal right on culsp hill at the battle of gettysburg, despite repeated assaults by confederate troops.
