Cdv Identified Soldier Winegar Ithaca NyNice original cdv of a soldier wearing a standard enlistedman's frock coat, open showing military vest and watch chain. Beardsley bros, ithaca, backmark and tax stamp. In original period ink is washington winegar and below that crossed out is geo either his full name was george washington winegar and he was known familiarly by his middle name, which is not at all uncommon in the victorian era, or someone thought his first name was george, was about to write it, and then corrected it by crossing it out. In any case it is a nice original civil war photo of a soldier. In passing i note that the image is reversed in the photo and is thus probably taken from a tintype, a common practice when the soldier was deceased and no other photos were available to distribute to family members, so he may have perished in the war.
