Up for auction is a nice cdv of a lieutenant colonel or major, (hard to tell with the oak leaves), taken in battle creek, michigan at g. W. Loring's new york gallery. Slight crease in the center, doesn't hurt the images content. I wish i knew which regiments were raised in battle creek, somebody could check out the regimental histories and possibly get lucky and come up with a firm identification. Cartes de vistes of higher ranking michigan officers are very hard ot find. A rare and sought military antique pertaining to the war between the states, conjures up images of the battles of gettysburg and antietam & petersburg, battles between such notalbes as ulysses s. Grant and robert e. Lee, union and confederate army forcse battling under george custer and phil sheridan and joshua lawrence chamberlain. Confedeartes fighting under the likes of braxton bragg, stonewall jackson, jeb stuart and john mosby. Soldiers and cavalrymen fighting sword and saber duels, musket fire, battlefield smoke and more. All of the elements stimulate interest, respect, and admiratino which make the civil war the most interesting era in all of american history.
